Bournemouth University’s Global Festival of Learning comes to China

The Global Festival of Learning in China was successfully held in SIAS University, partnership with Bournemouth University, in Zhangzhou, Henan Province, on 27 and 28 June 2016. It was a part of Bournemouth University’s Global Festival of Learning.

Bournemouth University is based on the south coast of England and has recently been named among the top 200 most international universities in the world [by Times Higher Education magazine].As one of the most influential departments in Computer Animation industry, National Centre for Computer Animation is located in the campus. Now, the university’s Global Festival of Learning comprises a series of events to celebrate the best of Bournemouth University, its research and its knowledge.

Events was focus on the topics of entrepreneurship, communication, and digital and social media, with academics from Bournemouth University coming to Zhangzhou to personally deliver the sessions and input their knowledge to attendees.

Sessions ranged from an introduction of social to entrepreneurship and a session on tweeting as a business, through to market research and strategies for professional development.

Dr Sonal Minocha, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global) at Bournemouth University, said, “I believe this is a very exciting development for Bournemouth University, at a time when BU has been acknowledged by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016 as one of the top 200 Most International Universities. We are really looking forward to working with our partners in China, putting on some great events that highlight the work we do at BU and deepen our ever increasing links in China.”

The Festival of Learning has been running in the UK for three years, and has established itself as a celebration of learning, showcasing BU’s latest research and expertise to a wide audience. For the first time in 2016 the Festival is going global and will focus on two locations; China and Malaysia.

Bournemouth University’s links to China are ever increasing; and the University recently launched a Hub of Practice in China, called the China Innovation Hub. The Hub was launched by Sonal Minocha and Professor John Vinney, Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University, with a key goal of working with universities in China, as well as businesses and the Chinese government to research and deliver innovation, particularly in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship.

The Festival is also due to take place in Malaysia, as well as in Bournemouth UK, at Sunway University and the Cyberjaya in Kuala Lumpur, on 28 and 29 June 2016.
